The Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) at Michigan State University is a National Science Foundation program that supports recruitment, retention, and graduation of U.S. students in doctoral programs and of the natural and social sciences, mathematics, and engineering. The goal of AGEP is to promote changes that transform U.S. universities to embrace the responsibility of substantially increasing the number of underrepresented U.S. minorities who will enter the professoriate in STEM or SBE disciplines. BEACON The BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action is an NSF Science and Technology Center founded with the mission of illuminating and harnessing the power of evolution in action to advance science and technology and benefit society. Research at BEACON focuses on biological evolution, digital evolution, and evolutionary applications in engineering, uniting biologists who study natural evolutionary processes with computer scientists and engineers who are harnessing these processes to solve real-world problems. Collegiate Employment Research Institute at MSU (CERI) CERI strives to increase our understanding of your adults in their transition from college to work by fostering collaboration and exchange among professionals in various settings; nurturing creativity, openness, and courage of thought about thinking about our profession; innovating and embracing ideas; and sharing information and expertise with those seeking insight to young adults at work. Council of Graduate Students (COGS) The Council of Graduate Students is an authorized student government on campus representing MSU's graduate / professional students at various levels across Michigan State University. Their mission is to improve and advance graduate education in order to ensure the vitality of intellectual discovery. Some "graduate student" specific groups are listed below:
Future Academic Scholars in Teaching (FAST) The FAST program provides opportunities for a diverse group of doctoral students to have mentored teaching experiences and gain familiarity with materials on teaching and assessment techniques. GradPlan GradPlan is the web-interactive system for Ph.D. student to create and store their Ph.D. Degree Plans and subsequent graduate program activities. Graduate Academic Conference (GAC) The primary goal of the Graduate Academic Conference is to give graduate and professional students the opportunity to present their work to a diverse and educated community, promote interdisciplinary networking, aid in the development of public speaking skills, and encourage collaboration. Graduate Employees Union (GEU) The GEU is looking for a few good people to represent their departments at the Stewards Council. Stewards are the voice of the TAs in your department. The Stewards Council is also the decision making body of the GEU. Graduate Student Leadership Institute (GSLI) GSLI is an intensive, one-day leadership conference where students learn what it means to KNOW, BE, DO Leadership from top administrative leaders in higher education, faculty, government, and business. The 2014 conference is TBD. Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender Resource Center (LGBT) The LGBT Resource Center lead and collaborates on university-wide initiatives that enhance campus climate and support services for MSU students who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, and their communities, at Michigan State University. MSU Career Success Michigan State University's Career Success is the gateway to resources, programs, and events that will help you get from where you are not to where you want to be professionally. MSU Department of Student Life Student Life engages students in active learning and encourages scholarship; prepares students for leadership roles within the University and future work / community settings; enhances the educational environment by promoting, educating, and facilitating campus-wide understanding of students' rights, responsibilities, and freedoms; and conducts research studies to further knowledge of current and future college students for dissemination through outreach relationships. Planning, Resilience, Engagement, & Professionalism Model (PREP) PREP is the MSU Graduate School career and professional development model, designed to help you plan for a successful doctoral and postdoc experience and a smooth transition into your future role in academia, government, industry, corporations, or agencies. Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) Michigan State University demonstrates international leadership in providing the latest disability technology, resources and services through its Signature Program at the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. Teaching Assistant Programs (TAP) For over twenty-five years, Michigan State University's Teaching Assistant Program (TAP) has been working with graduate programs and faculty to provide a wide variety of professional development experiences in support of the teaching and learning of all MSU teaching assistants (TAs). This effort is particularly crucial because it is the teaching assistants at Michigan State that are often providing undergraduate students with their first exposure to core courses in a wide variety of disciplines. As such, teaching assistants play a crucial role in Michigan State University's efforts to ensure academic success among the institution's undergraduate population.
Writing Center Consultants The Writing Center at MSU operates with a broad vision of collaboration in the MSU community; peer-to-peer consultations with students, faculty, and the community allow us to expand ideas of literacy and composing beyond traditional models and geographic boundaries.
